The dinneen chalice

In 1936, Stieff was commissioned to create a Communion Chalice for the Rev. Richard D. Dinneen in memory of

Mr. and Mrs. Michael J. Foley.

Michael J. Foley was the Mayor of Cohoes NY

Dec. 31 1918-1919 and again Dec. 311931-1933

Mr. Foley was also

Assistant Superintendent of The Prudential Insurance Co.

(Troy NY)

The Rev. Richard D. Dinneen appears to be from mid/upstate New York from various searches for the name in that era.

His denomination is unknown.

The detail and hand chasing here is spectacular. As America was starting out of the depression, this would have been

(please pardon the expression/pun)

a God Send to the master silversmiths at Stieff. Times were slow, not many were buying silver and suddenly an order comes in that could keep a team of men busy for weeks.

That would have been a wonderful thing.

There are small set stones in the Chalice, but I do not know what the stones are  or the value.

All photos of the Dinneen Chalice are from ebay.

The bell of the cup is gold washed

The mark for 1936 is the A

On a “One Off” piece like this, I do not know what the 95 mark would

represent. There is not catalog number for this.

The Chalice was sold in 2010 for $ 2250.00 (US) (ebay)
